I was in complete awe with the Acropolis, rising above the city as a powerful symbol of ancient Greek civilization. Crowned by the Parthenon, it reflects the Athenians’ devotion to art, democracy, and their gods. Built mainly in the 5th century BCE, the Acropolis continues to represent the enduring influence of classical Greek architecture and culture on the modern world.

Taken from the rooftop of our accomodation, every night the incredible Parthenon lights up the city like a beacon. Below, the city hums softly, but above it all the Parthenon stands calm and eternal, watching over Athens as it has for millennia.

Cypriot snacks

Koupes are my favourite Cypriot street food! Made from bulgur wheat shaped into an oval and filled with minced pork, onions, parsley, and spices, they are then deep-fried until golden and crisp. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, koupes are often enjoyed hot with lemon and are a staple at festivals, bakeries, and family gatherings across Cyprus.

Cypriot meze is a culinary tradition, a feast of small plates designed to be shared and savored slowly. It blends Greek, Turkish, and Middle Eastern influences, featuring dishes like grilled halloumi, olives, sheftalia, loukanika, and rich dips such as tzatziki and taramasalata. Each bite tells a story of the island’s history, culture, and warm hospitality. Meze not just a meal but a celebration of culinary history and flavour.

Traditional souvlaki

Souvlaki is a beloved street food in both Greece and Cyprus. Tender pieces of marinated meat—often pork, chicken, or lamb on skewers. In Greece, it’s commonly served in pita bread with tomatoes, onions, and a dollop of tzatziki, offering a perfect balance of smoky, savory, and creamy flavors. In Cyprus, souvlaki often features larger chunks of meat and is sometimes paired with local herbs or halloumi cheese, giving it a distinct island twist. Both versions are simple yet deeply satisfying, capturing the essence of Mediterranean cuisine in every bite.
